YOUR CARBON FOOTPRINT
Your carbon footprint is a measure of the impact your activities have on the environment and, in particular, on climate change. Simply put, it is the measurement of all the greenhouse gasses you individually produce.

WHERE WE’RE AT TODAY:
HOW OPG IS REDUCING ITS CARBON FOOTPRINT
We’re Upgrading
By refurbishing, upgrading and expanding our nuclear and hydroelectric capacity across the province, we are diminishing our reliance on burning coal for fuel and will stop burning coal altogether by the end of 2014.
We’re Saving Energy
It takes electricity to make electricity.
As a result of mechanical, electrical, thermal and conversion efficiencies over recent years, OPG has saved energy — 2.3 terrawatt hours since 1994. That’s enough electricity to power almost 200,000 homes for a year and offset as much as 2.2 million tonnes of CO2 that would have been emitted into the air.
We’re Planting Trees
As many as 2.8 million trees since 2000! This continuing effort will offset approximately 1.6 million tonnes of CO2 in the course of the trees’ lifespan. This is equivalent to taking 650,000 cars off the road for a year.
