OPG’s ongoing commitment to safety excellence resulted in many individual sites and businesses celebrating major safety performance milestones in 2008 consisting of multiple years without a lost time injury.
In 2008, OPG received the Canadian Electricity Association’s Gold President’s Award of Excellence in recognition of three consecutive years of top quartile employee safety performance.

OPG has achieved this level of performance through the development of a safety culture where employees are expected to consistently build safety into every task they perform each day. This safety culture is founded on the implementation of targeted risk mitigation programs and the OHSAS 18001-based safety management systems. OPG is deeply committed to the safety of its workers, young and old alike. We make absolutely sure that our young workers have the skills and training they need to perform their jobs safely and require our experienced workers to take regular safety training courses.
